General music instructors needed: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday after school early evenings: exact hours to be determined in part by instructor availability

St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church in Monona (5700 Pheasant Hill Rd., 53716) is seeking qualified instructors for a newly forming Joyful Noise community youth music program. This program is a community recreation-type program, and not part of the religious program at the church; instructors will be independent contractors, not members of St. Stephen’s program staff. The program is planned to include children ages 4k-grade 4, divided by grade, with sections that meet weekly for 10 weeks from early September through November (ending before Thanksgiving.) Payment is $200-250 per contracted 10 week section, depending on experience. A background check will be performed as part of the contract procedure.

Qualified applicants will:

•have at least one year of university-level music theory instruction OR the equivalent experience through private instruction

•have at least one year of university-level private music instruction in any instrument or voice

•have proven experience as an instructor, tutor, camp counselor or other experience related to childhood education

•hold or be pursuing a university level degree in education, with an interest in early education or music education OR have a track record of successful teaching experience with the target age group (pre-K-elementary)

•be comfortable working in a classroom setting with 4-8 pre-K and elementary school aged children

•be capable of clear, verbal communication with the needs of elementary school children in mind

•be able to adhere to a contracted 10-week instructional schedule

•be subject to a background check

Classroom musical instruments (such as rhythm sticks, hand drums, assorted percussion equipment, and a selection of Orff Instruments, among other necessary classroom equipment) will be provided for use during the 10-week sections. Weekly goals and a selection of music education activities will be provided to you for use in the development of your section(s), but this is a tremendous opportunity for music education majors and early education majors to explore and implement classroom techniques, ideas and activities they are developing during their course of study.

Please contact Rebecca Redmann, Joyful Noise Director and Lead Instructor at [rebecca at ststlc dot net] to submit your resume, the name of three professional references, and to schedule an interview. We will continue to interview potential instructors until all contracts are filled, but to ensure consideration, please contact me to schedule your interview no later than July 30.

Though not directly on a bus route, St. Stephen’s can be accessed at a very limited schedule via bus on the 38 commuter route as well as the 16; reliable transportation is essential.
