WORT is in search of a classical music show host or substitute.
Time slot available: Tuesdays, 5 am – 8 am or Mon-Fri 5-8 am (sub hosting)
Responsibilities: Host a weekly air shift, including on-air announcing and engineering. Produce the program and operate station equipment within FCC regulations and WORT policies and guidelines for web streaming. Creatively select and mix music with announcements and other scheduled material for broadcast, such as BBC News headlines and the Insurgent Radio Kiosk. Enter playlists online and write posts for WORT’s website and social media. Attend fundraising and technical workshops to update and improve those skills. Help review new releases and solicit appropriate music, from local to international artists, recommending additions to WORT’s library. Seek out and share information about local classical artists and events via announcements, interviews and other live or recorded material. Be available and responsive to staff communications. Participate in other station activities as required.
Qualifications: A strong knowledge of and passion for classical music, especially composers and performers outside of the mainstream; familiarity with people, events and resources within our listening area; enthusiasm for joining in our on- and off-air fundraising and outreach activities. An extensive personal music collection is a plus, and strong communication skills and dependability are crucial. The ability to type playlists and contribute to online media, or have an assistant do so for you is required. Previous radio experience is not necessary; all training will be provided.
