Part-time organist: Having just hired a new coordinator of music, Midvale Community Lutheran Church (MCLC), Madison, WI, dedicated to supporting a strong music program, is now accepting applications for the position of part-time organist for 8:00am Sunday worship. All applications must be received by MCLC no later than February 6, 2015. The church organ was built by the Schlicker Organ Company of Buffalo, NY, in 1986. There are 17 stops (not counting extensions/borrows) on two manuals and pedals—AGO standard console. As with most Schlicker organs of the time, chests are electric slider. Voicing is somewhat mild, particularly in the principal chorus. The organ speaks directly down the long axis of the room. There are no visible façade pipes.
This year-round position includes playing organ for a traditional service at 8:00 a.m. Sundays, accompanying choir and special music offerings as needed on both organ and piano, and working as a team player with other music staff members. Position would include additional services as needed for holidays, and sharing responsibilities for funerals and weddings.
The experienced candidate should have excellent sight-reading and accompanying skills and be willing to play a wide range of musical styles. Availability to occasionally play for choir rehearsals on Thursdays at 7:00 p.m. would be beneficial. Position available immediately. Please send resume with references to Personnel Committee at Midvale Community Lutheran Church, 4329 Tokay Blvd., Madison, WI 53711 or email email@example.com. You may obtain a copy of the Position Description by calling (608) 238-7119 or stop in the church office.
