We have a professional performing opportunity for clarinet players!  The United States Air Force Band of the Golden West has 2 openings for clarinet.  As a musician, educator and/or administrator, I hope you can help me in locating talented performers who may be interested in auditioning for a position in the United States Air Force Band of the Golden West.

We are located in one of the most popular destinations for Air Force Bands musicians – Travis Air Force Base in sunny, northern California.  Located between San Francisco and Sacramento and only minutes from Napa Valley, this is a great location to start an Air Force career.

We offer a salary of $40,000-$44,000 annually with full medical and dental benefits, 30 days paid vacation per year, college loan repayment up to $10,000 and GI Bill for college up to $80,000.  As a member of the AF Band of the Golden West, we are full time, active duty professional musicians for the Air Force – which means that although we attend basic training just like every other airman, we spend all of our time working to support the band program.  If we deploy, we go as musicians to perform for troops.

The United States Air Force Band of the Golden West awards qualified individuals an opportunity to grow as musicians in a professional environment.  More importantly, the Air Force offers job security and stability in an increasingly competitive field.  For more in depth information about the USAF Band Career field, specifically the Band of the Golden West, visit our web site at:

Audition materials (resume and CD) are due by October 12 and our live audition will be held at Travis AFB on December 10, 2012.

The content of the pre-screen CD is not important – pick what you sound best on.  I recommend some solo work (excerpts), band and orchestra excerpts.  The CD should only be about 5-8 minutes total.    Make sure you include a resume with your CD.

The Audition Requirements are just a guide for what might be asked at the live audition.  If we find you musically qualified and invite you for a live audition, we will provide a detailed list of exactly what will be on the audition.

Please contact Matthew Garza in our auditions department with any questions at (707) 424-3735 or email at matthew.garza.2@us.af.mil
