Cello Faculty Position
POSITION – Beginning 2012/2013 Academic Year
Teacher of cello at the String Academy of Wisconsin.
Full-time teaching load (20 hours per week for two, 17-week semesters) will include individual cello instruction, group teaching, and music theory teaching. Additionally, 6- or 7-week summer session teaching expected, paid at an hourly rate.
Nine month salary and benefits guaranteed, commensurate with experience.
Masters degree preferred. Evidence of excellence in performing and teaching, with special emphasis and interest in working with children (individual and group lessons) is required.
THE STRING ACADEMY OF WISCONSIN
The String Academy of Wisconsin, founded in 1990, is a pre-college, non-profit music school. The school provides an opportunity for excellence in the pursuit of a comprehensive musical education in violin, viola and cello for students aged 4 to 18. School enrollment is approximately 175 students who come from Greater Milwaukee and surrounding areas. In addition, String Academy faculty teach string pedagogy courses for UWMs Master of Music degree in String Pedagogy and also present summer workshops in teacher training. Freelance work opportunities (regional orchestras, ballet and opera) can be found in the Greater Milwaukee area.
Screening will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled. Please send a letter of application, curriculum vitae, 2-3 letters of recommendation (with emphasis on candidates teaching), an audio/videotape of a recent performance by the candidate, and a videotape of the candidates teaching (private and group, if possible) and/or students performances.
