President and CEO of Manchester Bidwell Corp, Bill Strickland is nationally recognized visionary leader focused on delivering educational and cultural opportunities to disadvantaged students and adults. He has been recognized with numerous awards for his contributions to the arts and the community, including the prestigious MacArthur “Genius” award and 2011 Goi Peace Award. Bill Strickland believes that every one of us has the potential for remarkable achievement. Every one of us can accomplish the impossible in our lives if given the right inspiration and motivation to do so. We all make ourselves “poor” in one way or another when we accept that we are not smart enough, experienced enough, or talented enough to accomplish something. Bill Strickland works with the least advantaged among us, and if he can help them achieve the impossible in their lives, think what each of us can do. His Manchester Craftman’s Guild and Bidwell Training Center fosters an innovative, creative, responsible and intergrity-based culture for all who attend. As the Guild enters its 25th year, it has hosted 1,638 concerts with 2,714 performers, from trumpet legend Dizzy Gillespie to guitarist Pat Metheny. Artists have recorded 40 albums there, four of which won Grammy awards. The facility brings in elementary pupils to learn about jazz, and houses professional and educational workshops.
